About Us

Makibahagi was founded in 2004 owing to the need to extend a helping hand to the thousands of kababayan who were devastated by a huge flood that hit Quezon. Since then it mobilized the Filipino-Americans in sending monetary assistance to the victims of Leyte landslide, typhoons in Sorsogon, Iloilo, Metro Manila (Ondoy). Its current advocacy is to support the children of Smokey Mountain in Tondo, Manila in their quest to replant trees in the watershed areas.

In 2008 Makibahagi was chosen by ABS-CBN as one of the finalists in its Gawad Geny Lopez Award for its accomplishments. Makibahagi, aside from continuing its mission to constantly nudge FilAms in helping their homeland, is also trailblazing in offering youth programs.  Notably among them are the Makiguhit Arts Workshop, Pinoy 101 and its annual Cultural Show that not only aim to preserve and promote the rich Philippine folk dances and songs but gap the cultural divide between American-born children and their immigrant Filipino parents.
